Contagious Blessing – Pastor Tunde Bakare

When you hear the word contagious or contagion, what picture comes to your mind? For many, it is disease, as in contagious disease – the transmission of disease from one person to another by contact or a corrupting influence, one rotten apple destroying all the apples in the apple cart, or the spreading of an emotional or mental state among a number of people. It also means the spreading of an influence from person, to person, depending on what that person carries.

A common dilemma
How often have you have made genuine effort? You have put in a lot of effort because you want to succeed but it is as if the more you do, the less you get. You don’t really have so much to show for all the input. And you look around you, and you find those who do less, get more. The subject of our contemplation is extremely important and because the subject of our contemplation is very important, we will approach the subject as Ezra did.

Ezra 7:8-10
And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. On the first day of the first month he began his journey from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

What kind of person was Ezra, and what did he do?

Ezra had “prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord and to do it and to teach.” And when you seek God with all of your heart to understand God’s principles and how God blesses people, and why some are blessed and they seem to carry a contagious spirit of that blessing but others are not so blessed but stay in the same place, then you want to begin to pay attention to details.

Abraham, a carrier of contagious blessing
The first time the word ‘bless’ was mentioned in the whole bible is in Genesis 12:2 – I will make you a great nation. I will bless you, [that is the first time you will find bless in the entire bible] and make your name great and you shall be a blessing.

Is there anyone rich enough to be a blessing to all the families of the earth? If they lined up all the families of the earth tonight and asked Bill Gates to give each and every one a million dollars, what will happen to Bill Gates? He will probably become broke the same day. But there is such a contagious blessing that God was willing to deposit in the life of Abram, if he would obey God, that all the families of the earth shall be blessed in him.
